Dr. Rick McCarthy
Athletics have always played an integral role in Dr. McCarthy’s life since the age of five. Growing up in Encinitas, he was active in soccer, little league, volleyball, and basketball. As a high school athlete, Dr. McCarthy began weight training in order to gain muscle mass and build his endurance.
In 1986 Dr. McCarthy entered the University of Southern California, and, as a freshman, joined the Trojan baseball team as a pitcher and played all four years for the program. He was also involved in intramural sports at USC and was voted “Best All-Around Athlete” for the entire USC intramural program during his senior year.
After college, Dr. McCarthy decided to pursue his chiropractic degree, attending the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles, one of the oldest nonprofit chiropractic colleges in the country. It was a great fit for Dr. McCarthy’s passion for fitness and his interest in the structure and function of the human body. As a student at Cleveland, he discovered the importance of a healthy functioning spine and how it relates to the neurological system and overall good health of an individual.
In order to offer his patients the very best exercises necessary to improve their conditions, strengthen their bodies, and achieve their fitness goals, in 2003 Dr. McCarthy became a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner as well as a Certified Personal Trainer. As a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner, Dr. McCarthy has specialized knowledge of sport injuries and physical fitness and is qualified to handle sports-related injuries and to work with performance-oriented athletes as well as individuals who maintain an active lifestyle.
Discovering how the structure and condition of the body influences how it functions and its ability to heal itself, Dr. McCarthy recognizes and respects the importance of keeping the body healthy and safe while at the same time helping his clients reach their personal fitness goals free from injuries
With his extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, nutrition, and physiology, Dr. McCarthy takes a holistic approach to health and wellness, providing his personal perspective on chiropractic treatment as a way to enhance athletic performance as well as optimize the movement of your body during your day to day activities.
